With the globalization of economies and the rapid advancement of science and technology, our living environment is undergoing significant changes. Japan’s Fifth Science and Technology Basic Plan presents a vision of the near future known as Society 5.0. In this vision, science, technology, and economic activities develop in a sustainable manner, and people living in this society are empowered to address challenges in daily life. Ultimately, people will be able to realize and actualize their “well-being” as individuals.
In today's rapidly changing society, the foundation of people’s daily lives is also undergoing significant transformation. The issues and needs individuals face in their personal spheres are becoming increasingly diverse and complex. To improve people's quality of life (QOL), a higher level of knowledge, as well as deep thinking and the ability to envision solutions, are required. The Graduate School of Well-being Studies at Fuji Women’s University aims to cultivate individuals who can address these challenges, enhance QOL from the perspective of everyday life, and contribute to creating a rich and hopeful future.
In order to solve many of the diverse and complex challenges of contemporary daily life, it is essential to have a global perspective while also engaging with concrete, local issues. A deep, interdisciplinary knowledge that bridges the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences—what we call “integrated arts and sciences”—is also vital. Our graduate school wholeheartedly welcomes students and working professionals who wish to deepen these perspectives and areas of knowledge, and who are eager to identify and address the various multidimensional issues currently facing our society.
